My. Gutkin et al., LOW-ENERGY DISCLINATION STRUCTURES AT GRAIN-BOUNDARIES IN POLYCRYSTALLINE AND NANOCRYSTALLINE SOLIDS, Physica status solidi. a, Applied research, 153(2), 1996, pp. 337-346
Peculiarities of the splitting of grain boundary disclinations in poly
crystalline and nanocrystalline solids are examined theoretically. The
three basic variants of such a splitting (planar splitting, threefold
star splitting, circle splitting) are considered with special attenti
on to calculations of the energetic characteristics of these splitting
processes. It is shown that the planar splitting decreases the probab
ility of microcrack generation at grain boundaries.
