Abstract
A monochromatic optical field carrying an image is known to be scrambl ed due to propagation through a multimode fiber. Two schemes of the im age acquisition through such a fiber are suggested. Both are based on the assumption that the input-to-output propagation Green function is stabilized by some technique. In both schemes the object is characteri zed by the transverse distribution of reflection pattern, and the refl ected signal is to be collected by a photodetector for further compute r processing. The applications for endoscopy are discussed. (C) 1996 S ociety of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers.
