Abstract
It is shown that in a non-cubic crystal, the extra heat capacity due t o quadrupolar interaction of nuclear spins >1/2 could be much bigger t han the phonon heat capacity when the temperature decreases. The possi ble coupling between quadrupolar and phonon heat reservoir via paramag netic impurities is stressed. A NMR experiment done on sapphire is pre sented with an evaluation of the coupling between the two reservoirs a nd its consequence on the performance of the bolometer.
