Abstract
This paper presents an experimentally verified model for a variable-re luctance machine (VRM), implemented in the MASTTM modeling language fo r use with the Saber (R) circuit simulator. The Saber model is based o n a previously developed analytic model of the VRM which summarizes th e terminal magnetization characteristics of the VRM. Saber output is c ompared to experimental data at two different operating points to demo nstrate the ability of the simulator to accurately predict VRM operati on over a wide range of operating conditions. The paper includes a dis cussion of the commutation and current regulation templates which are needed to support VRM simulation.
