Sulfur as a potential by-product of hydro-metallurgical processes cont
ains selenium and tellurium as impurities. These impurities have to be
removed if the sulfur is to be marketable. While selective reduction
of selenium from sulfur is not realized, the selective oxidation of se
lenium and tellurium from sulfur in acidic solutions can be achieved p
rovided that proper contact of selenium and tellurium with the oxidant
is available. Simultaneous oxidation and stripping has been employed
to separate selenium and tellurium from the sulfur in this study.
