Abstract
A recently discussed relation between thermal energy at the glass tran sition temperature and the kinetic energy of sound waves has been exam ined. The transition temperature and the sound velocity of the polymer ic glasses polycarbonate and poly(methyl-mechacrylate) have been chang ed by pressure variations up to 600 MPa. The result fits to the propos ed relation. The masses involved are found to be the at least partly i ndependent mobile parts of the complex molecules.
