S. Itakura et Jr. Anderson, LEARNING TO USE EXPERIMENTER-GIVEN CUES DURING AN OBJECT-CHOICE TASK BY A CAPUCHIN MONKEY, Cahiers de psychologie cognitive, 15(1), 1996, pp. 103-112
A juvenile male capuchin monkey, Cebus apella, was trained to use beha
vioral cues given by the experimenter during an object-choice task. Fi
ve conditions were used in different training phases: tapping on the c
orrect object, gazing plus pointing at the correct object, gazing clos
ely, gazing alone, and glancing without head orientation. The subject
learned to use all of the experimenter-given cues except glancing, whi
ch may indicate a lack of perspective-taking by the monkey.
