Blood samples were obtained from clinically normal captive adult kori
bustards (Ardeotis kori) in order to establish normal reference blood
chemistry values for the species. Twenty-four different tests were con
ducted using a Kodak Ektachem DT II dry-chemistry system. A comparison
of the values obtained was made with those of two sub-species of houb
ara bustard (Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii and Chlamydotis undulata
undulata) and the great bustard (Oris tarda), and showed some similari
ties between the different species. The results obtained from this stu
dy provide the first set of published data for normal blood chemistry
of the kori bustard.
