Mutations w(RSV-1) and w(RSV-4) Obtained by microinjection of RSV cDNA
into early embryos of Drosophila melanogaster were shown to be caused
by the insertion of mobile elements jockey and B104(rov), respectivel
y; partial reversion of w(RSV-1r) arose due to the deletion of a 5'-re
gion of mobile element jockey and of the adjacent region of the genomi
c DNA. It is concluded that genetic instability induced by oncoviral D
NAs is based on the ability of these DNAs to induce transpositions of
various mobile elements in the recipient genome.
