Tt. Efremova et Oi. Maistrenko, CREATION OF LINES WITH INTERVARIETAL SUBS TITUTION OF INDIVIDUAL WHEAT CHROMOSOME USING ALIEN MARKER GENE FROM RYE, Genetika, 32(2), 1996, pp. 252-258
The possibility of performing directed and rapid intervarietal substit
ution of common wheat chromosomes with minimal cytological control was
first demonstrated in experiments with an alien gene-rye marker Hp. I
t was shown that monosomic lines with the alien substitution marked by
rye chromosome 5R may be used as a recipient for creating lines with
intervarietal substitution. Monosomic lines with rye chromosome 5R wer
e maintained during long-term reproduction (14 generations). Maternal
monosomics with univalent rye chromosome 5R were selected according to
their phenotypes with expression of the rye gene Hp. Selection of pat
ernal monosomic plants with a chromosome from a donor cultivar was bas
ed on absence of the alien marker gene during repeated successive back
crosses.
