Study of the phosphorescence of brominated aromatic hydrocarbons in po
lystyrene, synthetic diene rubber, and butadiene-styrene block-copolym
er showed that the additives were concentrated predominantly in the PS
phase of the block-copolymer. The distribution constants are 4.0, 1.3
, 3.1, and 1.7 for 9-bromophenanthrene, 2-bromonaphthalene, 4,4'-dibro
modiphenyl, and 5-bromoacenaphthene, respectively. The efficiency of p
hosphorescence quenching by oxygen is higher in PS than in the block c
opolymer. The concentration dependence of the quenching efficiency can
be described by a modified Stern-Volmer equation that takes into acco
unt the unequivalence of the particle distribution.
