Abstract
The Maxwell curl postulates have been analyzed for propagation in the vertical microstructurally significant plane of a periodically bent ne matic (PBN) medium. The ordinary modes are unaffected by the anisotrop y and the periodic inhomogeneity of the PBN medium, but the extraordin ary modes are. Simple expressions, applicable for small anistropy para meters, have been found. (C) 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
