This letter, presents a discussion of the solution of general bianisot
ropic waveguides. General formulas for the field components that are c
onvenient for practical calculations are deducted. The conditions nece
ssary to obtain two independent second-order differential equations fo
r the longitudinal field components are studied, and features of the s
olutions of bianisotropic waveguides are discussed. Our formulas have
clear physical meaning and are easily incorporated into computer progr
ams. (C) 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
