Md. Veatch et al., SMALL-CELL CARCINOMA AS THE CAUSE FOR A NONDIAGNOSTIC V Q LUNG-SCAN/, The American journal of emergency medicine, 14(2), 1996, pp. 183-185
Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a common cause of morbidity and mor
tality in an emergency department patient population, The advent of ve
ntilation/perfusion (V/Q) lung scanning and the more recent publicatio
n of well-controlled analysis of results, such as the Prospective Inve
stigation in Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis (PIOPED) data, have provided
the clinician with effective diagnostic algorithms to use in suggesti
ve cases, However, there are disorders other than PTE, such as broncho
genic carcinoma, that can cause characteristic abnormalities in V/Q sc
anning, One such case is described in this report. (Copyright (C) 1996
