Using H-1 and O-17 NMR spectroscopy it was shown that in the initial s
tage of the reaction of TiO(acac)(2) (Hacac=acetylacetone) with an exc
ess of Me(3)COOH in benzene an alkylperoxo complex Ti(acac)(2)(OOCMe(3
)) OH is formed. The mode of generation of this alkylperoxo complex (v
ia addition of Me(3)COOH to Ti=O bond) differs from that previously ob
served for alkylperoxo complexes of vanadium(IV) and molybdenum(VI) (v
ia oxidative addition or ligand substitution,respectively). Ti(acac)(2
)(OOCMe(3))OH is probably octahedral with acetylacetonato ligands occu
pying equatorial positions.
