Jm. Prignet et al., MUCOSAL PSEUDOLIPOMATOSIS OF THE COLON - A DISCUSSION OF ETIOPATHOGENESIS BASED ON 2 CASE-REPORTS, La Semaine des hopitaux de Paris, 72(9-10), 1996, pp. 276-278
The presence of optically empty cysts in the colonic mucosa establishe
s the diagnosis of mucosal pseudolipomatosis of the colon, a condition
that may be related to pneumatosis intestinalis. Many cases are asymp
tomatic. Occurrence as a complication of colonic endoscopy has been re
ported. The two cases reported herein are unusual in that they were re
vealed by pain or chronic diarrhea. A causative role for endoscopy was
virtually excluded in both cases.
