Thirty-eight tea polyphenols were evaluated for their inhibitory effec
t against HIV replication in H9 lymphocyte cells. 8-C-Ascorbyl (-)-epi
gallocatechin (13) and theasinensin-D (32) demonstrated relatively pot
ent anti-HIV activity with EC(50) values of 4 and 8 mu g/mL and therap
eutic indexes of 9.5 and 5, respectively.
