A model of turbulence with second-order closure is used to study the p
roperties of turbulent jets with major variations in density. Validati
on of the performances of this model, which employs a Favre average pr
ocedure, is firstly presented by comparisons with experimental data fr
om scientific literature and those obtained in the specific installati
on studied al IMST. Special attention is paid to the study of the inte
rface region between the flow and the ambient environment, which demon
strates the present capacities and limitations of this type of model,
particularly those associated with the properties related to anisotrop
y of Reynolds stresses.
