Abstract
The concept of information seems applicable to investigate the interna l organization of social systems, and specifically, to give insight in to the possibilities as well as the limitations of processes of 'steer ing and regulation'. It can play a crucial role in linking the structu re of a social system to its actual capacity to steer and regulate its internal organization. Moreover, it seems promising in the understand ing and explanation of the global dynamics of these social processes.
