Abstract
While there are several options for managing the small pupil during ca taract surgery, adjustable iris retractors are beneficial when there i s a risk of cutting or tearing the iris, such as with rubeosis. Approp riate use of this new surgical tool includes proper placement of the p aracenteses and a gradual and limited enlargement of the pupil, perhap s to no more than 5.0 mm.
