Gs. Rouyan et al., THE TOXICITY OF ANTIGENS EXTRACTED FROM STRAINS OF BACTEROIDES-VULGATUS FROM DIFFERENT ORIGINS TO CHICKEN EMBRYOS, Acta Microbiologica Polonica, 43(1), 1994, pp. 97-101
The toxicity of purified lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and capsular polysa
ccharides (CPS) extracted from 3 strains of Bacteroides vulgatus to 11
day old chicken embryos was examined. The three B. vulgatus strains w
ere isolated from different sources. The CELD50 (chicken embroys letha
l dose 50%) of these preparations was determined. All antigens were sh
own to be lethal to chick embroys. The toxicity of LPS of the strains
isolated from clinical sources was higher than that of the capsular an
tigens. The LPS and CPS of one strain isolated from normal gut-flora w
as less toxic than other antigens.
