Abstract
The first (preliminary) results on the anisotropy of the quasi-elastic neutron scattering signal from atomic hopping (phasons) in quasicryst als are presented. The results taken with a triple-axis spectrometer a t various Q-vectors with a modulus of 2.85 Angstrom(-1) in a plane per pendicular to a twofold axis show that the intensity is less along the fivefold axis. This suggests that the jumps observed occur along a tw ofold or a threefold axis.
