Ad. Archer et al., MAGNETIC-SUSCEPTIBILITY MEASUREMENTS OF TL1-XSEX ALLOYS CLOSE TO THE STOICHIOMETRIC COMPOSITION TL2SE, Journal of non-crystalline solids, 207, 1996, pp. 126-129
Magnetic susceptibility measurements provide information that is close
ly related to the electronic density of states of a material, and have
been used in the past to provide information on the energy dependent
electrical conductivity in liquid metallic systems. In this paper the
results of a preliminary study of the variation of magnetic susceptibi
lity and conductivity of a narrow definition liquid semiconductor, T1-
xSex, within the composition range 0.31 less than or equal to x less t
han or equal to 0.36 and temperature range 300-600 degrees C are prese
nted. The results show that there is a minimum in the electronic densi
ty of states at the stoichiometric composition of Tl2Se which correspo
nds to the observed minimum in electrical conductivity. It is shown th
at the transport properties are similar to another liquid semiconducto
r system, Ag1-xSex, within the same composition range, except at stoic
hiometry where Ag2Se shows anomalous conductivity behaviour.
