Abstract
Neutron and X-ray diffraction measurements were carried out for molten V2O5 to determine the detailed atomic structure, The observed pair di stribution function by neutron diffraction expresses the oxygen pairs, and there exist oxygen atoms located at a distance of 2.76 Angstrom a round a central oxygen atom. The atomic coordinations of V-V and V-O h ave also been evaluated from both structure factors. An atomic configu ration of this molten salt is supported by the tetrahedrally coordinat ed one, and some of these are connected by the three corners of four, The ultrasonic velocity and sound absorption measurements were also ca rried out to investigate the dynamical properties, The sound absorptio n for this molten salt decreases with increasing temperature, while th e ultrasonic velocity is about 950 m/s above melting temperature and a lmost constant with increasing temperature. The structure and dynamica l properties of such clustered liquid are discussed in relation to the network structure.
