A rapid and simple high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) meth
od was developed for the simultaneous determination of hexadecoic and
octadecanoic acids in stearin. The samples are dissolved in ethanol wi
thout any additional pretreatment. HPLC was carried out on a MicroPak
MCH-5 column (15cm X 4mm I.D.) using water (pH 2.5 with perchloric aci
d) - acetonitrile (10/90 V/V) as the mobile phase with UV detection at
210nm.
