Yv. Kondrakhin et Vv. Shamin, GENERALIZED CONSENSUS MATRIX FOR RECOGNITION OF CLEAVAGE POLYADENYLATION SITES IN VERTEBRATE PRE-MESSENGER-RNA/, Molecular biology, 28(3), 1994, pp. 338-343
A sample of 63 sequences of the cleavage/polyadenylation sites in vert
ebrate pre-mRNA was used to construct a generalized consensus matrix,
composed of the absolute frequencies of oligonucleotides of length l i
n the ith position relative to the cleavage point. To recognize a poly
adenylation site in a nucleotide sequence, a multiplicative measure wa
s obtained using the matrical elements as weighing factors. For any om
ega-long segment, comparison of the functional mu with the threshold v
alue mu permits one to judge whether the given segment is a processin
g site.
