The amorphization of trigonal Se can proceed by mechanical milling. Du
ring the amorphization, the second and third nearest neighbours of the
trigonal crystal structure were observed to be drastically changed in
the RDF(r). The number of atoms located at the second distance (r = 3
.4 Angstrom) is reduced from four to zero as a result of a shift of at
oms towards a higher r value. After the amorphization we found that th
e number of atoms located in the vicinity of 3.7 Angstrom increased to
six. The result leads to the conclusion that the bonding between chai
n-molecules in the trigonal Se is destroyed by the strain and defects
induced by the milling.
