It is expected that the discovery of new amorphous alloys with high gl
ass-forming ability will enable production of bulk amorphous plates by
a conventional casting process. Technological research has been carri
ed out on the industrial die-casting machine 71109SV. The parameters o
f hear transfer were established by experimental and computational met
hods, and the relation between plate thickness and cooling rate was ob
tained. For production of bulk amorphous articles, three- and four-com
ponent alloys based on the Zr(Ti)-Cu system were used. A structural st
udy of amorphous plates with a thickness of 0.1 to 2 mm revealed the p
resence of fine inclusions of a crystalline phase less than 0.5% by vo
lume. The quality of the plates was satisfactory if the impurity conte
nt was less than 1 at.%. Some amorphous alloys investigated have the h
ardness of hardened steel, good thermal stability and high corrosion r
esistance.
