Abstract
This paper surveys the literature on the cutting stock problem, also k nown as the trim-loss problem, mainly for the two-dimensional case. Sp ecial attention is paid to the methodologies and the practical aspects . Related problems, such as the assortment problem, bin packing proble m, pallet loading problem and VLSI placement problem, are also discuss ed.
