Glass covered magnetic amorphous wires prepared by glass-coated melt s
pinning are of recent interest and they have magnetic properties that
depend on the magnitude and distribution of the internal stresses indu
ced during preparation. The stress distribution in amorphous Fe77.5Si7
.5B15 glass covered wires indicates an easy axis distribution that lea
ds to a magnetic structure consisting of an axially magnetized cylindr
ical inner core and a radially magnetized outer shell. The high values
of the internal stresses lead to a unique magnetic behavior of these
wires. This behavior was investigated through the magnetization proces
ses in samples prepared by the authors and it was concluded that these
wires are very appropriate for various sensing applications.
