The common pattern of habitat use by the genus Rupicapra shows a cycli
cal altitudinal migration related to the occupation of supraforestal p
astures from May/June until the first snowfall, and of the forest belt
during the winter. In the study area, when livestock are present in t
he subalpine grasslands, the existence of scattered meadows in the mou
ntain pine woodland allows chamois to spend the summer mainly in the f
orest at lower altitudes than other Pyrenean populations.
