Abstract
Vector computers are designed for high performance computing. Their ef ficient utilization depends on fast memory access. In many application s memory access conflicts (bank conflicts) drastically reduce the perf ormance. We propose a method to recognize such problems and suggest st rategies to resolve them. Some experiences with an implementation for Fortran programs are outlined. These methods can similarly be used for other scientific computer languages like C or Pascal.
