Jc. Tu, OCCURRENCE AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ALPHA-BRAZIL RACE OF BEAN ANTHRACNOSE [COLLETOTRICHUM-LINDEMUTHIANUM] IN ONTARIO, Canadian journal of plant pathology, 16(2), 1994, pp. 129-131
Ten isolates of Colletorichum lindemuthianum, cause of anthracnose of
bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), were obtained from diseased pods of five cu
ltivars (cv. Centralia, Midland, Mitchell, OAC Sprint, and Shetland) a
nd three breeding lines of bean. The pods were collected from field tr
ials at Kippen, Mitchell, and Woodstock, Ontario, in 1993. Pure cultur
es of the isolates were nearly identical to race alpha of the fungus.
Based on their pathogenicity to a series of differential hosts, these
isolates were determined to be different from alpha but similar to the
alpha-Brazil race of the pathogen. This is the first report of this r
ace in Canada.
