In this paper, we are concerned with the fixed-order digital control o
f infinite-dimensional systems with bounded input and output operators
. The starting point of this paper is the set of necessary conditions
for optimal fixed-order dynamic compensation of infinite-dimensional c
ontinuous-time systems as developed by Bernstein and Hyland (1986) and
their discrete-time finite-dimensional corresponding results obtained
by de Koning and de Waard (1991) and Bernstein et al. (1986). One cen
tral problem we solve in this paper is extending the main results from
Bernstein and Hyland (1986) and de Koning and de Waard (1991) in the
case of discrete-time infinite-dimensional systems. As an immediate ap
plication, we give the set of necessary conditions for solving the fix
ed-order digital control problem.
