The local environment of sulfur in amorphous As2S3-Sb2S3-Tl2S was stud
ied by XAS at the sulfur K-edge. Variations in shape and position of t
he white line are attributed to changes in the nature of the chemical
bond, the metal-sulfur bond lengths, and the homogeneity of the metal-
sulfur bond length distributions. The variations of the white line par
ameters, position and line width, with sample composition reveal the d
ifferent influences of the glass-forming arsenic sulfide and antimony
sulfide and the glass modifying thallium sulfide.
