Ps. Braterman et al., ORIENTATIONAL EFFECTS IN THE INFRARED-SPECTRUM OF THE DOUBLE-LAYER MATERIAL, MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE FERROCYANIDE, Materials research bulletin, 29(12), 1994, pp. 1217-1221
The infrared spectrum of the title compound, examined in a KBr disc, c
ontains two strong overlapping bands in the CN stretching region. In o
riented samples of the same material, examined with light traveling al
ong the c axis, the sharper of these bands is absent. This is in accor
d with a model in which the octahedral ferrocyanide ions are oriented
with their individual 3-fold axes parallel to the c axis. The results
suggest a general method for determining the orientation of intercalat
ed and exchanged species in layered hosts.
