Abstract
A novel simulation technique for evaluating the performance of coded c ommunication systems at low bit error rates (BERs) is presented. To il lustrate the generic technique, the performance of a soft decision dec oding algorithm for block codes is evaluated. Realistic assessments of residual BER at 10(-9) and below are achieved.
