Abstract
In this high resolution magnetic resonance spectroscopic study of expe rimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) and Semliki Forest virus (SF V) infection of the Biozzi AB/H mouse, marked increases in the initial ly low levels of N-trimethyl compounds in the spinal cord were observe d during probable demyelinating episodes. There was also a pronounced and reproducible modulation of the levels of taurine and myoinositol d uring acute and again during chronic relapsing EAE. The ratio of N-ace tyl-aspartate to creatine in the spinal cord of mice infected with the mutant M9 strain of SFV decreased to approximately 70% of that seen i n normal mice.
