Abstract
LaB6.06, and CeB6.07 crystals were obtained by the floating zone metho d. Their thermionic emission properties were compared with those of th e stoichiometric crystal cathodes, Increasing boron content decreased the evaporation rate, which determines the life time of the cathodes, without influence on the emission properties. Accordingly, composition control was found to be very effective for extending the lifetime of the cathodes.
