(Pb,Cd)-1222 compounds with nominal compositions of (Pb0.5Cd0.5) (Sr(0
.9)R(0.1))(2)(R'Ce-0.7(0.3))(2)Cu2Oz (R, R' = rare-earth elements) are
synthesized and characterized. Single or nearly single-phase samples
are successfully obtained for the compounds with R = R' = Y, Pr, Sm, E
u, Gd, Dy, and Ho, and for those with a pair of rare-earth elements (R
, R') = (La, Eu), (Sm, Gd), (Sm, Eu),(La, Gd), (Eu, Gd), (Nd, Eu), (Nd
, Dy), (Nd, Y), (Nd, Er). X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction r
esults show that the structure is isostructural to (Pb, Cu)(Sr, R)(2)(
R', Ce)(2)Cu2Oz (R, R' = rare-earth elements).
