Jm. Stronggunderson et al., ICE NUCLEATING ACTIVE BACTERIA INCREASE INSECT MORTALITY AT HIGH SUBZERO TEMPERATURES, Cryo-letters, 15(6), 1994, pp. 385-392
Insect cold-hardiness was reduced following treatment with a live susp
ension of P. syringae. Insects treated with 10(8) bacteria/ml water an
d held for 24 hr at -5 degrees C had a mortality rate of 36% while mor
tality increased to 80% at -10 degrees C. Mortality of stored grain pe
sts also increased after treatment.
