We show that a bundle of optical nonlinear waveguides can be considere
d as a discrete dynamical system with a global coupling between elemen
ts in an array. It has been established that the transverse dynamics o
f light propagation in this system can result in the formation of stab
le clusters of excited fibres located at maxima of the input intensity
distribution. This allows contrast enhancement operations to be carri
ed out.
