G. Gatti et al., STRUCTURAL AND NMR SPECTROSCOPIC CHARACTERIZATION OF ETA(3)-PALLADIUM(II) COMPLEXES, Journal of organometallic chemistry, 483(1-2), 1994, pp. 77-89
eta3-Benzyl palladium complexes have been prepared by insertion of sty
rene in the Pd-Me bond of the solvated cation [L2PdMe(solv)]+ (L2 = ch
elating ligand). The eta3 coordination of the benzyl ligand has been e
lucidated by X-ray structure determination and NMR spectroscopy. NMR s
tudies have shown that [(eta3-R-alpha-benzylPdL2]+ (R = Me or Et) unde
rgo two dynamic processes in solution: eta3 - eta1 coordination of the
benzyl group and ligand exchange of coordination sites. The TMEDA and
DIPY complexes undergo a rapid and reversible reaction with carbon mo
noxide to yield (R-alpha-benzylCO)PdL2CO]+.
