Abstract
We describe a method that increases the accuracy and repeatability of optical extinction ratio measurements from presently several percent t o better than one percent. This accuracy is required when optimizing t he performance of Gb/s optical transmitters using lasers or modulators for ultra low bit error rates. The method is simple, and can be appli ed to both research and production measurements.
