Abstract
Surface modification by Ce is an alternative method to replace Cr6+ an d other hazardous chemicals in conversion coatings, anodizing baths an d as pigment in polymer coatings. The processes in molten salts have t he advantage of fast kinetic process, and high reliability. The Al/15% SiC can be an alternative material to replace metal alloys in marine e nvironments. To enhance its pitting corrosion behavior, a coating form ed by cerium compounds have been applied in molten chlorides. The prel iminary results are shown in order to establish the effects of these c oatings against pitting corrosion.
