We study the influence of several modifications in the physics of the
Sun on the p-mode frequencies. Finally we put most of them together to
produce a model which leads to a significantly better fit than the st
andard model. The tested modifications are: overshooting at the bottom
of the convective envelope and a variable mixing length, increase of
the opacity below the convective envelope or in the surface layers, im
provement of the Debye-Huckel correction and modification of the parti
tion functions. It turns out that the discrepancies between observatio
ns and the predictions of the standard model can be significantly redu
ced by the increase of opacities below the convective envelope and by
improvements in the physics of the surface layers.
