Z. Drahota et al., INHIBITION OF MITOCHONDRIAL ATPASE BY DICARBOPOLYBORATE, A NEW ENZYME-INHIBITOR, Journal of bioenergetics and biomembranes, 26(5), 1994, pp. 583-586
Polyborate anions were found to inhibit mitochondrial ATPase. Mercapto
and chloro derivatives of dicarbononaborates showed full inhibition o
f the enzyme activity at 0.5-0.8 mM. The inhibitory effect of dodecabo
rates was lower. The inhibition was of competitive type with respect t
o ATP. The inhibition of soluble F-1-ATPase indicates a direct interac
tion of the polyborate anion with the catalytic part of the enzyme mol
ecule.
