A 100-700 m thick and 17 km long composite eclogite stack sandwiched b
etween rheologically weaker HP granulites (on top) and HP gneisses (to
the bottom) has been mapped in detail within the Cabo Ortegal Complex
. The stack is made of three eclogite slices (recrystallized under c.
800-degrees-C, > 1.7 GPa) bounded by major (up to 200 m thick) shear z
ones with blastomylonitic eclogites (730-degrees-C, 1.5 GPa). The geom
etry of the slices conforms a duplex antiformal stack, with the slice
in the rear showing the geometry of a km-scale sheath fold. Mineral an
d stretching lineations roughly trend N20-degrees-E and associate N-di
rected sense of movement of hangingwall blocks.
