Abstract
A non-linear poroelastic constitutive law is proposed for modelling th e swelling of a saturated clay. The porous medium is composed of three phases: the solid skeleton, the water and the electrolyte in solution . The coefficients of this constitutive law which take the electric in teraction between the clay particles and the electrolyte into account are determined from the electrical double-layer theory.
