Psn. Murty, DISTRIBUTION OF CALCIUM-CARBONATE IN THE SEDIMENTS OF THE VISAKHAPATNAM SHELF, CENTRAL EAST-COAST OF INDIA, Journal of the Geological Society of India, 44(6), 1994, pp. 681-684
The distribution of calcium carbonate in Visakhapatnam shelf sediments
is controlled by the mollusca shells and shell fragments and foramini
fera. The high concentrations near the river mouths are indicative of
the detrital contribution also. The concentrations decrease from top t
o sub-bottom levels due to more dilution by the detritus from the adjo
ining area and less deposition of non-detrital calcium carbonate in th
e geological past.
